James Edgar Sanders "Farmer" was my driver, my friend, and my constant reminder of the debt paid by so few that we all may live in freedom. He was a very kind man that was taken from us much too soon. He has been and will continue to be missed by me and all the members of the  1/5 Recon unit that he most honorably served with.

I don't remember James Edgar Sanders, Jr. real well.  As hard as I've tried it's difficult to remember specifics about him.  Except for his nickname,  just about everyone had one.  Sanders was called "Farmer".  I don't know how he got the name or who gave it to him but it seemed to fit.  I recall him as a quiet person who usually stopped by my track when accompanied by others, kind of making the rounds.  I also remember him as a person that was well liked by his fellow Recon platoon buddies.  I don't recall of ever hearing anything negative said about "Farmer".   As with all our lost Brothers, it was such a shame for them to go so young and so full of life.  But, thank heaven this country has Heroes like "Farmer"

Farmer , I remember sharing C-rations with him , I remember once when he brought me a can of peaches .  I thought why would anyone ever give up a can peaches, Farmer would, thats the kind of guy he was.  I was the medic on that ambush patrol when Farmer got hit. He was very brave all the way on up to the medivac .I often think of him .  I am very grateful for the people responsible for putting together this web site & memeorial page to give a guy like me a chance to say something about the great men tthat we had a chance to serve with.
