Junior Burns (second from left)

I remember when Plt Sgt Burns came to Recon.  He came to us from the 4th ID to replace Plt Sgt Horst Adams who was going home.  Plt Sgt Burns was only with us for about a month or so in Sept/Oct '67 when he was KIA on a night ambush.  Several other Recon men were wounded in the same attack. I was on guard duty at the forward base camp when the attack broke out.  What a helpless feeling to listen to the fight and the radio chatter.

I didn't have time to get to know Plt Sgt Burns real well but I do remember him as a person with a commanding personality.  He seemed like a no nonsense leader that commanded respect yet would reach out to you on a personal bases.  If I would of had the chance to know him better I'm sure we would of had a good relationship.  I didn't know much about him personally except rumors that he was married with several children.  We all felt it a shame that he was lost in his prime.  May he rest in peace.  Howard Craig
